Aftercare
Directions
Caring for a new tattoo is the most essential step in the tattoo process. Once you leave your appointment it is your responsibility to care for your new tattoo.
Everyone's skin is as unique as the tattoo they get, however the importance of aftercare is universal.
As an industry standard, I use second skin bandages at all appointments. If you are allergic to medical adhesive or would like an alternative bandaging solution please contact me directly or discuss it at the time of your appointment.
Keep the bandage on for the full duration of healing, which is recommended to be 3-5 days. When you're ready to remove it, begin by running warm water over the bandage. Gently pull at the corners as the water helps to loosen the adhesive. Once a section of the bandage is lifted, continue to slowly peel it off in a downward direction. Remember, this is not a wax strip, Do not rip it off!
Ensure you are pulling the bandage down, away from you. A good example is to follow the direction of your hair growth.
Once the adhesive bandage is removed, wash your new tattoo. Yes, keeping a clean tattoo is essential to a speedy and easy healing. Clean the tattoo with clean hands, using unscented antibacterial soap and wash away with warm water. Warm not Hot.
Finally, pat the area dry using a paper towel (preferred) or a clean cloth towel, and apply an unscented moisturizer. Continue this wash and moisturize routine 1-2 times daily for the next seven days after removing your bandage.
Do not use scented body wash or any wash containing gel beads on the tattoo until it is fully healed (2-3 weeks). Use only unscented soap until your tattoo has completely healed.
